Family games

I love seeing what I can find at second-hand stores. Some of the best finds have been games, for only $0.99 -1.99! Here are my latest second-hand treasures. They were made in the 70s and 80s, but are complete!

The pathfinder game is one Dallas, who is 7, and David and I have been enjoying. You have to try finding the other persons marker, while navigating the maze they hid it in, without seeing it. Similar to battleship.

The Baby Bird game say up to 8 years, but Dallas was bored with it. It is simple enough for Freeman (4) to easily play, and Timothy (3) only needs a little help. It can get a little long in play, but a little bit of simple converstaion about the birds has kept it fun for the boys!

So, what are your favorite games to play with your kids or other adults?

Judelyn

My Mother has started her own Etsy shop. She is an incredible seamstress, insisting on perfection! Those of you who have seen Dallas' dresses, know the quality I'm talking about here! Stroll on over and see what she has, and spread the word about her store to your friends!

Sunbonnet Sue Part 2

Now that we knew which hats and bonnets went together, I ironed the pieces onto the background fabric. First the dresses and bonnets, then the feet, arms and hands.

Next came adding embellishment such as ribbon, lace and buttons. The blue and green Sue at the bottom is, I think, my very favorite of all. Dallas really likes the strawberry Sue.

This is pretty much as far as I've gotten. Now I'll be working on sewing around the pieces, and that will take a while. I don't usually get much done in each setting before I have to go take care of the children!

Victory!!!

Homeschooling is legal!

In a unanimous decision, the California Court of Appeal for the Second Appellate District today ruled that “California statutes permit home schooling as a species of private school education.”
Today’s decision stands in stark contrast to the opinion this same three-judge panel issued in February, which would have made California the only state in the union to outlaw home education had it remained in effect.

“It is unusual for an appellate court to grant a petition for rehearing as this court did in March,” said HSLDA Chairman Mike Farris, “but it is truly remarkable for a court to completely reverse its own earlier opinion. We thank you for your prayers and give God the glory for this great victory.”

Sunbonnet Sue Part 1

Dallas needs a nice warm blanket for her bed. Did I run down to Walmart and buy something? No. I decided to do it the hard way. So, I am making her a Sunbonnet Sue Quilt! It is going to be really cute when its finished! My mother has a quilt with different fabrics on each block, and I can remember looking at them all, and choosing which fabrics and colors I liked best. It was my favorite blanket to put on my bed, and is what inspired me to make my first quilt.

Dallas' quilt, with the exception of the background fabric and the backing, is made from fabric I already had and fabric my Mom sent me. Many of theses fabrics are ones Dallas has had clothes made out of! I did let her choose two new fabrics from Joanns, to make sure from the start she felt like she had a part in making the quilt.

I started out by making a template. I looked around online and found Sunbonnet Sue patterns and printed several out. Dallas and I chose the one we liked best, made a few modifications, and then I traced it onto template stuff.
Then I traced bonnets, dresses, shoes, arms and hands onto Heat n Bond. This was ironed onto the backside of the fabrics, and then cut out. I now had pieces of fabric ready to stick to the background fabric.
Dallas helped choose which bonnets went with which dresses. We had a lot of fun switching them around until we found the right combos! Then we layed them out ont he background fabric to make sure they still looked ok.
