Family games

I love seeing what I can find at second-hand stores. Some of the best finds have been games, for only $0.99 -1.99! Here are my latest second-hand treasures. They were made in the 70s and 80s, but are complete!

The pathfinder game is one Dallas, who is 7, and David and I have been enjoying. You have to try finding the other persons marker, while navigating the maze they hid it in, without seeing it. Similar to battleship.

The Baby Bird game say up to 8 years, but Dallas was bored with it. It is simple enough for Freeman (4) to easily play, and Timothy (3) only needs a little help. It can get a little long in play, but a little bit of simple converstaion about the birds has kept it fun for the boys!

So, what are your favorite games to play with your kids or other adults?

Dallas & Freeman playing Legos

Legos are an all time favorite playtime activity at our house. One of the few toys that no matter which set you get, you can play with it a thousand times, but its never the same thing! (The only one not 100% thrilled is Mommy DeLaper! That is because I hate stepping on them, and I end up vacuuming up those expensive little buggers. However, hours on end of creative fun over-ride any faults they have.)

Baby Mine...isn't a baby any more

Today we celebrated 7 years. Seven lovely years as parents, seven wonderful years of Dallas!!! Its hard to believe its been that long, and then again, there are days where it seems like I've been doing this mothering thing FOREVER, and wonder if I will ever get to sleep through the night again! I am so thankful for my precious little girl!
Dallas' friend Asher spent the night, and we had a party at Grandma and Grandpa DeLap's house. Dallas wore the dress Grandpa bought for her. Before we went home, two little girls were well covered in makeup from Auntie Christy and Uncle Jeff.
The cake was different than any other cake I've decorated, because Dallas doesn't like frosting. It is too sweet for her taste. So, I used whipped topping, colored lavandar, for most of the decorating. There is a little bit of store bought cookie frosting on it, too. The package said that would get hard, but APARENTLY, when put on whipped topping, it doesn't harden up, but rather gets liquid and runs! The cake tasted good with the topping instead of frosting, and turned out much better than I expected. I made Dallas a sunbonnet to match Holly Hobbie's, and it even matched her birthday dress. I didn't get a picture on her birthday, so I'll have to take one tomorrow.
She loved the little babies and sling for Barbie Auntie Derr made her...I'm sure we'll be seeing some for sale in the Quite Lovely Boutique.

Tortillias

I never dreamed I would make my own tortillias, when they are so easy to buy! But I found out the tortillias I was buying have trans fats in them, and so I made my own. I'm so proud of myself, and decided to brag about it to all of you lovely readers! I even made the tortillias with almost all whole wheat flour! I have been doing some reading about different foods, what is healthy and why, and what is not, and why it isn't. I'm learing so much! I'll post about that later. In the meantime, you can see Timothy is enjoying the dinner. I made quesadillas with the tortillias, baked turkey, cheese, mango, and bit of bbq sauce. Yummy!

This week

Ok, here is an update on some of what went on in our house this week: The children all got colds, starting last Sat. The younger two recovered quickly, the older 2 still have coughs. I sat down and wrote a simple schedule for Dallas's schoolwork for this month. She gets to put a star on the chart each day she comletes everything for the day. With only two subjects each day, that shouldn't be too hard!

Baby Josiah needed a new dipee cover, so I threw this blue one together for him, using a pattern I bought when Freeman was a baby. It turned out pretty darn cute, if you ask me!!! I drafted my own pattern for a cover, and made the white one, above. It still needs some tweeking, but not bad for a first draft! Let me know what you think.

We had Dave and Ryan over over on Tuesday for dinner. Its always nice to hear their stories! Neither Dave or Ryan knew how to play pitch. So, of course, I, coming from the Northcutt family, took it upon myself to teach them the very fun-- though somewhat confusing--game of 10 point pitch. What fun! I think by the end, they were getting the hang of it!

Do you remember the "Where's Waldo?" books? They are a lot of fun to look through, and the children find them very funny! Here, they are having fun searching for Waldo, in one of those rare times when they all doing something toghether without fighting.

So, like any good Mother would do, I took a picture.

Just another day

Today, as I folded laundry, my kiddos played with blocks. Did you know you can play with blocks still? No batteries needed. Nothing to plug in. No voice or sound chips to annoy to death everyone within earshot.
Ahhhhhh...blissfully simple.
