Crock pot or slow cooker?

I just recently came accross this really cool blog, where this lady is using one of her crock pots every day of 2008! She has a lot of recipes on there, and tells how her family liked or didn't like the recipe. She has used them for other stuff, too, like Shrinky-dinks. Remember those? I can't believe they are still making them! I just might have to buy some for my kids to try out, and even use the slow cooker to shrink them! I think its great. One of my goals this year has been to learn how to use my crock pot better. Usually, my food ends up over cooked, or at least burned around the edges.

So, here is a toast to slow cooking in what is left of this year...May the food end up better than it has in the past!

the Women

I went to this movie today with some of the women in my life...Terri, Kathy G, Rebecca and Allison. It was funny and at times sad, it also had some lesbien scenes that were gross. A lot of it reminded me of my sisters and me! OH!! There was not one singele solitary man in the whole movie. They talked about them, but never was there one to be seen. Not in the background or anywhere! Interesting. So while it had some good parts, it certainly wont make it to my list of favorites, or even ones I'd like to see again. But, I had a good time with my friends!

A Cry as of Pain

This post is dedicated to my best friend...

I saw these lyrics, and they made me stop and think. My first thought were of how this is so fitting for others, then I realized they are for me.

And they are for you, too. Yes, you.

A cry, as of pain, again and again,
Is borne o’er the deserts and wide spreading main;
A cry from the lands that in darkness are lying,
A cry from the hearts that in sorrow are sighing;
It comes unto me; it comes unto thee;
Oh what—oh what shall the answer be?

Oh! hark to the call; it comes unto all
Whom Jesus hath rescued from sin’s deadly thrall;
“Come over and help us! in bondage we languish”;
“Come over and help us! we die in our anguish!”
It comes unto me; it comes unto thee;
Oh what—oh what shall the answer be?

It comes to the soul that Christ hath made whole,
The heart that is longing His Name to extol;
It comes with a chorus of pitiful wailing;
It comes with a plea which is strong and prevailing;
“For Christ’s sake” to me; “For Christ’s sake” to thee;
Oh what—oh what shall the answer be?

We come, Lord, to Thee, Thy servants are we;
Inspire Thou the answer, and true it shall be!
If here we should work, or afar Thou should send us,
Oh grant that Thy mercy may ever attend us,
That each one may be a witness for Thee,
Till all the earth shall Thy glory see!

Capes and pirate shirts

I stumbled accross this site called twin rose designs. It was full of lovely clothes that stir the imagination! I mean, haven't you ever wondered what it would be like wearing these kinds of clothes or living at the time when that was normal?? The pictures on the site were protected, so these are similar ones

Family games

I love seeing what I can find at second-hand stores. Some of the best finds have been games, for only $0.99 -1.99! Here are my latest second-hand treasures. They were made in the 70s and 80s, but are complete!

The pathfinder game is one Dallas, who is 7, and David and I have been enjoying. You have to try finding the other persons marker, while navigating the maze they hid it in, without seeing it. Similar to battleship.

The Baby Bird game say up to 8 years, but Dallas was bored with it. It is simple enough for Freeman (4) to easily play, and Timothy (3) only needs a little help. It can get a little long in play, but a little bit of simple converstaion about the birds has kept it fun for the boys!

So, what are your favorite games to play with your kids or other adults?

Judelyn

My Mother has started her own Etsy shop. She is an incredible seamstress, insisting on perfection! Those of you who have seen Dallas' dresses, know the quality I'm talking about here! Stroll on over and see what she has, and spread the word about her store to your friends!

Sunbonnet Sue Part 2

Now that we knew which hats and bonnets went together, I ironed the pieces onto the background fabric. First the dresses and bonnets, then the feet, arms and hands.

Next came adding embellishment such as ribbon, lace and buttons. The blue and green Sue at the bottom is, I think, my very favorite of all. Dallas really likes the strawberry Sue.

This is pretty much as far as I've gotten. Now I'll be working on sewing around the pieces, and that will take a while. I don't usually get much done in each setting before I have to go take care of the children!
